A little late maybe March 5, 2009

I’m now done with all my research a bit to late but better late then never. I have also sent out my latest prototype to a couple of people to see what people think and I have recieved very different responses. But I know someone said about Flower that it isn’t a game for everybody, it is a game for those who have taken gaming to the next step and might want to experience something new and not just another shooter. I think the same goes for River, it isn’t a game for everybody but that is usually the way of smaller games.
Tomorrow I have a meeting with Ted and we shall decide what game that will be the final product in this project. I don’t know which it will be and no of the concepts are a lot better than the other. But I’ll return tomorrow with more info on it.
Prototyping 101 cont. and a 1½ hour meeting February 24, 2009

I spent yesterday afternoon with reading the mentioned chapter from last post, about playtesting which is a good thing to know about since I am planning to do some playtesting. I also spent 1½ hour in a meeting with AK about what concepts to continue to work on. It all ended up with Eco and then River or Triangle Evolution. I have to do more and better research since AK wasn’t to happy with what I’ve written in my presentations, which was 3 lines of support words.
Today I will spend preparing a prototype for Eco, a game with a unique controll/camera method. It will be a challenge to actually do a prototype of it but it will be fun, I will also spend some time doing my research better so I won’t fail that part. That’s it for now, thanks for reading!
Working weekend February 22, 2009

I’ve spend nearly all day today doing some presentations for the research phase so I can present my games with the research. I changed a couple of the concepts after I recieved comments from Ted earlier this week. The five remaining concepts are:
- River
- Spacestation Breakout
- Triangle Evolution
- Elemental Railroad
- Eco
The upcoming week is about prototypes and I’m probably going to read some tomorrow about it, getting either a meeting with Ted or AK if Ted is short of time which it seems. But we’ll see what happens. Two weeks of prototyping and then one week of writing the final design document and then this project is over. Still looking for place to do my game design thesis at, you have or know one, please tell me.
The fifth idea February 19, 2009

So, I’m done with the four of the researches so far, they aren’t very scientific but more thoughts about what I think about them. The fifth idea which I get to chose is probably going to be Triangle Evolution, the thing is thou that it needs to be redesigned to work I believe. Or it would work as it is now but it would work even better in the way I’m planning to redesign it in. I also plan to write small game treatments on my five concepts to get a clear concept of what I have created so far. At the moment, it is a little information here and then some new info in the next phase. With a game treatment I would gather all info in a document which is usefull for the future and I do have some time over until the next phase that starts next week.
Today we have a meeting in school where we shall present our MS3 reports. It’s going to be intreseting to see what the rest of the class have made so far, I am curios on some peoples work and what they have done so far. I probably hit the gym before the meeting to because I haven’t been there since Monday and a little exercise is always good for the body.
That’s it for today, for my classmates; see you this afternoon. For the rest of you, thanks for reading and please, feel free to comment my work.
The chosen four February 18, 2009

I have now recieved a mail from Ted who have chosen four concepts for me to continue working on and they are:
- Eco
- Elemental Railroad
- SpaceStation Breakout
- River
The fifth is mine to choose and I will post more about it later. I also recieved a lot of comments on my concepts on Ted’s thoughts about them. Much helpful and it’s nice with someone who might see them in another way or with other possibilites. But now I have to work since I’m two days behind schedule. Hopefully I can research more than one idea each day but we will see about that.
Laters!
Yesterday February 18, 2009

So, yesterday didn’t go as planned, I didn’t get 5 concepts to do my research on but I’ll recieve them today, like really soon I hope. But yesterday wasn’t a total waste, I came up with my questions for what I should do my research on and with no further adue, here the questions come:
- How innovative is the concept?
- What makes the concept innovative
- Are there any similar products on the market or under development?
If there is:- What is their unique selling point?
- What is the different between my concept and theirs?
- What can I do with my concept to make it better?
- Is there a target group for the concept?
- Would the end product be saleable for a small amount of money?
- Is the concept expandable with a follow up or spin offs or similar products?
That’s the questions I am going to answer this week, I am two days behind schedule so I might have to work some on the weekend and on the evenings but thats pretty normal for me now adays.
For those of you with a PS3 out there, buy Flower from last weeks PSN update and buy Noby Noby Boy this week and support the downloadable game industry when quality titles are released.
